OMT38Q03 is a Huawei dual polarized coupler for the 38 GHz band. Parts like this are unglamorous, and they are the most common reason a microwave install does not finish on the day it was booked, because they get specified last and ordered later still.

A dual-polarised coupler feeds a single antenna on both polarisations at once. That is what makes a cross-polarised link possible, where two signals share one frequency on horizontal and vertical polarisation and the radios cancel the interference between them, roughly doubling the capacity of the hop without using any more spectrum.

At 38 GHz this is a short-haul band: typically two to eight kilometres, and less in a wet climate. Rain fade is the governing constraint on the whole design. These bands are chosen for capacity and for spectrum availability in dense areas, not for reach. That matters for an accessory as much as for the radio, because waveguide and adapters are band-specific: the dimensions are set by the wavelength, so a part for a neighbouring band is not a near-enough fit, it simply does not work.

The waveguide interface is 153IEC-R320, and it has to match what it bolts to on both sides.

The part of a microwave order that gets forgotten. A working hop needs the radio, the antenna, the mount, the waveguide or adapter between them, the cable up the tower and the indoor unit at the bottom. The radios and the dish get specified carefully because they are the expensive items; the mechanical chain in between gets assumed. Then a crew is on a tower with a radio that will not bolt to an antenna, and the hop slips a week while a part costing very little is couriered out. Price the whole chain at once even when only one item looks to be missing.

The RTN 950 is a Huawei microwave platform, and its lifecycle status is genuinely unclear. Huawei’s RTN line as a whole is still an active product family, but the position of this particular model could not be established: Huawei’s lifecycle database sits behind a login and model-level end-of-sale and end-of-support dates are not published openly.

So this page will not tell you the platform is current and will not tell you it is finished, because neither can be checked from outside. If that distinction matters to your purchase, and on microwave it often does because licensed-band links tend to live for a decade, ask us to confirm it with Huawei before you commit.

Send us the radio unit, the antenna and the band you are working with and we will confirm this is the right part. On a replacement, read the part number off the hardware that is up there now rather than working from the original paperwork, which on a tower maintained over several years is often no longer accurate.
