Cheque Printing Software for UK Businesses
Cheque Printing Software for UK Businesses
Fewer UK businesses write cheques than ten years ago, but plenty still do: rent and deposits, supplier payments, payments to people who don’t take bank transfers, and cheques sent with paperwork to councils, solicitors and HMRC. Writing them by hand takes time, and a cheque where the words don’t match the figures, or the writing runs outside the box, can be returned.
Green Code Technologies supplies CheqOne cheque printing software to businesses in the UK, together with the printers to run it. You write the cheque on screen, the amount in words is filled in for you, and it prints neatly on your bank’s own cheque book. No special cheque stock is needed.
What it does
| Task | How CheqOne handles it |
|---|---|
| Writing the cheque | Type the payee and the amount. The amount in words in pounds and pence is written for you, and you see the cheque on screen before printing |
| Printing | Prints on the cheque leaves from your bank, using an ordinary laser or inkjet printer, or a dedicated cheque printer |
| Your bank’s layout | Set up any bank’s cheque once in the drag-and-drop designer, with an alignment setting for each PC |
| Record keeping | Every cheque is logged with its number, date, payee and status: issued, delivered, cleared, returned or cancelled |
| Several companies | Run more than one company under one login, with separate user rights for each |
| Reports | Cheque registers and payee reports to PDF, Excel, Word or CSV |
Why print cheques rather than write them?
- Fewer returned cheques. The words always match the figures, and nothing is written outside the boxes.
- Clear for image clearing. UK cheques are cleared from a scanned image, so clear printed text helps them go through cleanly.
- Faster batches. Print a run of supplier or rent cheques in one go instead of writing each by hand.
- A proper record. You can see which cheques are out, which have cleared, and which are close to going out of date. Most UK banks won’t pay a cheque that is more than six months old.
How it works
CheqOne runs in your web browser, so the cheque register is available from any PC. Printing goes through the small, free CheqOne Print Helper for Windows, which sends the cheque to your printer at the exact size and position. Only PCs you approve can print real cheques; anything printed from the browser alone is marked SPECIMEN.
The software also writes amounts in Arabic, which helps UK companies that pay suppliers in the Gulf, and it includes ready-made layouts for 18 UAE banks.
Printers and set-up from Green Code
CheqOne works with any printer that has a Windows driver. If you are buying new, we can recommend and supply a suitable laser printer with a manual feed slot, which keeps single cheque leaves straight. We can also help set up your first cheque layout and the alignment on each PC.

Cheque printing FAQs
Do I need special cheques?
No. CheqOne prints on the cheque books your bank already gives you.
Does it work with UK banks?
Yes. UK cheque books follow a common size, and you set up your bank’s layout once in the designer. After that, every cheque prints in the same place.
Can more than one person use it?
Yes. You can add users with different rights, for example one person who writes cheques and another who approves and prints them.
Where is my data kept?
CheqOne is a web application run by its developer, Gear Net Technologies. A Windows desktop edition that keeps data on your own PC is available on request.
How much does it cost?
Plans are priced per year and depend on the number of companies, users and printing PCs. Ask us for a quote, or see the plans on the CheqOne website.
