NPTLCON01 is a protocol converter: a small standalone unit that translates between two interface types so equipment that was never designed to talk to each other can be joined up.

Converters of this kind exist because real networks are never homogeneous. The thing to establish is exactly what is at each end, because a converter that matches one side and not the other is no use at all.

It takes a minus 48 V DC supply, so it expects to live in a telecoms environment rather than beside a mains socket. On a site without DC that means a small rectifier, which is worth remembering because a converter is a low-value item that can quietly require a power arrangement to be sorted out.

The RTN 950 is a Huawei microwave platform, and its lifecycle status is genuinely unclear. Huawei’s RTN line as a whole is still an active product family, but the position of this particular model could not be established: Huawei’s lifecycle database sits behind a login and model-level end-of-sale and end-of-support dates are not published openly.

So this page will not tell you the platform is current and will not tell you it is finished, because neither can be checked from outside. If that distinction matters to your purchase, and on microwave it often does because licensed-band links tend to live for a decade, ask us to confirm it with Huawei before you commit.

Two things worth saying about converters generally. They are usually deployed in pairs and the two ends may be different part numbers, so confirm both. And they add a point of failure and a little delay to a circuit that may be timing-sensitive, which on signalling and telemetry circuits occasionally matters. Tell us exactly what is at each end, including the timing arrangement, and we will confirm the pair you need.
