TNFBDCMFBD02 is a Huawei dispersion compensation module for the OSN 1800.

What it is actually correcting. Different wavelengths travel through glass at slightly different speeds. A pulse of light is never a single wavelength, so over distance it spreads out until it starts to overlap the pulse behind it and the receiver can no longer tell them apart. That is chromatic dispersion, and it is why an optical span has a reach limit that has nothing to do with how much light arrives. This module winds the spreading back by passing the signal through a path with the opposite dispersion.

Where the OSN 1800 stands today is better than the part number suggests. This is a current Huawei platform, not a legacy one. The OSN 9800 line was refreshed as recently as 2024 and Huawei still describes its newest member as a flagship WDM product, and the OSN 1800 is the metro counterpart in the same generation. A card for one of these is a card for a line that is still being developed rather than one being wound down.

The honest caveat is practical rather than commercial. Huawei does not publish end-of-support dates outside a logged-in support account, so nobody selling you this part, ourselves included, can quote you a hard support-end date. What can be said is that the platform is current and the part is not an orphan.

One UK rule worth knowing about, and who it actually binds. Under the UK’s Designated Vendor Direction, designated public telecoms providers, meaning the large operators running public networks, were required to stop using Huawei high data rate transmission equipment in their core networks from 31 December 2025, a date that has now passed, and must remove Huawei from their 5G networks entirely by 31 December 2027.

If you are one of those operators, that is the governing fact about this product and nothing here changes it. If you are not, and most buyers of transmission hardware are not, the Direction does not apply to you and there is no UK legal barrier to buying or running this equipment. It is narrowly scoped to designated providers and public networks. Worth stating plainly, because it gets quoted as though it were a blanket ban, and it is not.

What we need to get this right. The measured length of the span, the fibre type, and ideally the actual dispersion measurement rather than a calculation from distance, because splices and cable slack mean the optical length is always longer than the map. Tell us the span and what is at each end and we will work out the compensation it needs and whether it belongs in the line or between amplifier stages.
